To form an LLC in Connecticut, the first step is to make sure your desired LLC name is available for use.

LLC Name Requirements In Connecticut:

1. For the Name, the abbreviations “LLC” or “L.L.C.” should be used at the end of your desired LLC name.

2. As an LLC is not a Corporation, your desired LLC name cannot contain the word “Corporation”, “Incorporated” or the abbreviations like “Corp.”, “Inc.”.

3. Your desired LLC name must be unique from other businesses registered in Connecticut.

Search the Connecticut Business Inquiry

1. Browse to the Business Inquire page of Connecticut:
https://www.concord-sots.ct.gov/CONCORD/online?sn=PublicInquiry&eid=9740

2. Enter your desired LLC name in the “Search by Name” text box.

 

Leave the “Search by Business ID” and “Search by Filing Number” boxes blank, as these are NOT mandatory.

In the “Number of Records per page” drop down list, you have the option to select from 25 / 50 / 75 / 100

3. Click on the “Search” button and browse the list of existing Connecticut businesses:

• If “No records found for Business Name {Name}” appears, that means your desired LLC name is available for use.

• If the search results shows the names similar to yours, then your desired LLC name is available for use.

• If your desired LLC name appears in the search list, then your desired LLC name is not available for use. You need to search with different Name.

• If the search results show a name similar to your desired LLC name, then your desired LLC name is not available for use. You need to search with different Name.
